Executive Summary Report of Investigation

We are committed to being responsive and transparent with our community.  Acting on that commitment we retained an independent, third party investigator to review a complaint from the community concerning the euthanasia of two dogs, named Hank and Bert.
We are committed to ensuring no healthy adoptable animal is euthanized.  It is our mandate to exhaust all available efforts before euthanasia is considered – we do not take these decisions lightly.  They are emotionally challenging for our staff and volunteers when we have to make them.
After a thorough investigation, which entailed interviews with 11 of our staff and volunteers, the investigator found that the decision to euthanize these two dogs was a difficult one, not made hastily, but a reasonable step and consistent with our policy.

Vets in Training Is Back!!!

We’re excited to present a Vet in Training club for children aspiring to be a vet or to work with animals in the future. This is a 3 tier program (JR VIT, VIT, and SR VIT). These workshops will give children hands-on experience with animals and exclusive access to our on-site animal hospital. These workshops are taught by our on-site veterinarian, RVTs and special guests.  The club runs for 6 weeks and each workshop is two hours in length. Children ages 10 to 14 can participate. The club is restricted to 15 children so participants can get up close and experience hands-on practice.  Throughout the weeks, VITs will learn basic anatomy, perform physical exams, learn about proper nutrition and grooming, perform simulated surgery (learn to suture), learn about breed-specific diseases, and more.
Dates: Thursdays, March 28th to May 2nd
Times: 6:00 – 8:00pm
