Humane Societies Seeking New Executive Director

Local Business Leader Chosen as Interim E.D.

The Humane Societies of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford-Perth are looking for a new Executive Director to lead the sister organizations in the next phase.  With the departure of Jack Kinch, Executive Director since 2011, Mary D’Alton has been appointed Interim Executive Director.  D’Alton’s appointment as Interim Executive Director solidifies the Board’s commitment to build community partnerships.

“The Board is grateful to Jack for his vision and leadership,” said Lars Pastrik, President of the Board.  “Jack adopted his own dog, Jake, from the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society and believes all pets belong in homes, not shelters.  We appreciate his commitment to education and community.  Mary brings that same initiative to the table.”

In 2012, under Kinch’s leadership, the Stratford-Perth Branch of the OSPCA joined with the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society, creating the Animal Welfare Agency South Central Ontario (AWASCO), one of the largest humane societies in Ontario.  Following a successful capital campaign, in October 2016 the Stratford-Perth Humane Society moved into Gloria’s Place, its new home.

In 2014, the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society was recognized for its innovative approach to animal welfare by the Kitchener-Waterloo and Area Chamber of Commerce, winning the Non-Profit/Charitable Business Excellence Award.  That same year, it was also recognized by its peers and presented with the Summit Award for shelter management.

In 2015, the Stratford-Perth Humane Society was nominated in the same category for the Stratford Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

The Humane Societies of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford-Perth are registered charities and receive no government funding for its programs.  More than 60 percent of its revenue comes from community donations and grants.  Individuals and businesses wishing to support the Humane Societies are encouraged to participate in the upcoming Cupcake Day on February 27th.
